The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with a Chinese tech giant, which adds the educational institution to its ICT Academy.
According to a recent report, the partnership will provide certification vouchers to students for free. Students can take the open online courses and the formal classes that the University will be offering.
The Partnership
Under the MOA, the company will reportedly be providing training, ICT laboratory equipment, ICT courses and open laboratory to the University.
They will also collaborate on the development of a digital academy, ICT research projects, and conduct a joint study to improve the internet connectivity in the University’s main campus as well as its branches.
Additionally, the company will be offering a full range of cooperation, starting from training the instructors as part of local talent development.
This is a chance for Filipinos, especially engineering, computer science, and ICT students and graduates to be employed in the company and work for them.
ICT Academy
The ICT Academy is part of company’s ecosystem that addresses the challenge of talent shortage in the field of information and communications technology (ICT).
This addresses the areas of cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and Internet of Things (IoT) particularly.
In the aforementioned ecosystem, the company collaborates with education and training institutions, industry associations, and partners to enable the sustainable development of ICT.
It works with universities around the world.
Backed by its extensive experience in ICT development, the tech company has created its own certification system that defines standards for all ICT fields.
The ecosystem provides clear paths on career development for all ICT professionals toward their goals.
It will also deliver ICT Technologies Training, which encourages students to get certification and develop local talents with practical skills for the ICT industry and community.
The University is one of the most recent additions to the ICT Academy in the Philippines. The first one is the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) back in October 2018.
This company explained that this is their way of putting into action their mission and vision of bringing digital to every person, home, and organisation for a better connected and intelligent world
The University’s President shared that the partnership will provide both the students and faculty members a chance to develop their capabilities in the realm of technology.
ICT Competition
Meanwhile, the company announced the ICT Competition that it will have among the University’s students and faculty members.
The competition has three levels: the national level, the regional level and the finals.
The national level will have participants compete with other schools in the Philippines. The regional level will be held either in Malaysia or Indonesia. No details were provided on the finals.
Since its inauguration in 2015, the ICT Competition has been a global phenomenal event among higher education institutions, providing a platform for international talents to communicate.
