In a world where applications are now making life easier, wedding planning preparation is not to be left behind.
Students from Indonesia’s Bandung Institute of Technology developed an application that connects a couple planning to get married with wedding suppliers and vendors.
According to a recent press release, Canika is an application designed by three Management students, which aims to help couples in their wedding planning.
Background of the app
Derived from a Sundanese word which means “can be married”, Canika was originally a project fulfilment for a course called Leadership and Management Practice at the University.
The potential for the application to grow was noticed and so it was used again for another course called Integrated Business Experience.
During this time, the project expanded its wings and recruited seven more, who will serve in the financial, marketing and operational areas.
The app serves as an online marketplace for wedding suppliers that customers and users can choose from. Couples can oversee their wedding preparation anywhere and anytime they please.
An Indonesian airline ticketing and hotel booking start-up, which is now one of the country’s unicorns, inspired the birth of the app. This Indonesian unicorn managed to disrupt the country’s travel agencies.
Recognition and funding
Aside from winning Best Project in their subjects last February 2019, the group had successfully joined the Young Entrepreneur Summit UI Studentpreneur 2019.
This got them the funding and guidance from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education in the Technology Based Potential Start-up Program from the College.
In order to get the funding, the group had to compete with other teams that were made up of post-graduate students and even academics.
They went through a rigorous selection process that included administration, presentation and interview.
Wedding planning made easy
The latest version release of the Canika app provides nine major wedding categories that users can look into when preparing for their wedding. These categories are:
- Venue
- Wedding dress
- Car
- Make-up artist
- Catering
- Decoration
- Invitation
- Photographer and videographer
- Florist
For the suppliers and vendors, there is no need to worry as joining Canika is free. Moreover, the app serves as an avenue for direct contact and communication with the users through the direct chat function.
Additionally, the app offers various payment methods that make life easier for the customers.
The students are hopeful that their start-up, which started as merely a school project, will become sustainable and eventually becomes a unicorn, like their inspiration, and then becomes a decacorn.
Having the Canika app around will boost the sales of small businesses and MSMEs, connecting them to possible customers.
Interested users may download the app through their Android smartphones.
