Students may experience a more interesting summer vacation this 2019, at the same time, learn new skills as the De La Salle University (DLSU) has announced its line-up of workshops.
As reported, the #UpSkill 2019 DLSU Summer Programs is scheduled from May to July this year at the DLSU Science and Technology Complex in Biñan City, Laguna.
The Workshops
The workshops will start with the Game Development Summer Program which is slated to run from 6 to 10 May 2019.
Interested Grade 11 or 12 students with a knack for game development will surely have memorable and fun-filled summer learning about the basics of game development, which will combine elements of design, programming, and art.
The participants of the program have two options to choose from, the Game Programming track of the Game Arts track.
They will be working in teams alongside programmers and artists. They are expected to produce a simple game by the end of the workshop.
On top of this, the Game Development Summer Program will also include industry talks and game jam events.
The Continuing Professional Education on Data Analytics and Spatial Econometrics Program, scheduled from 9 to 12 May 2019, will focus on Data Analytics.
The workshop will cover data mapping and spatial econometric modelling and its applications in economics and social sciences.
It will include laboratory activities on the application of the models using R, Strata, and GeoData software.
Next in line is the Workshop on Impact Evaluation Design and Methods, which will run from 13 to 20 May 2019.
This workshop will include laboratory sessions that will teach participants about the different impact evaluation designs and gain theoretical, econometric and practical skills in designing, conducting and managing impact evaluations, among others.
It will cover sample size calculation, randomisation designs, mechanics of randomising, basic commands, basic programming, statistics in STATA, quasi-experimental methods, data management, regression analysis, and analysis of survey data and others.
Summer School on Data Science will run from 14 to 18 May 2019. Participants will have hands-on learning sessions on data collection, data cleaning, data exploration, data visualisation, hypothesis testing and real-world applications.
Add to that the opportunity to learn about artificial intelligence (AI) and statistical methods. Lecturers of this workshop will include domain experts and professors from the New York University (NYU) and the Philippines.
Capping off the 2019 Summer Programs is a short course on Insect and Spider Taxonomy from 24 June to 5 July 2019.
OpenGov Asia earlier reported on a new innovation centre that will equip the Filipinos with skills in game development.
The location of the new four-storey building is at the University’s Laguna campus. The centre aims to make the campus a hub for research, multimedia game development revolution and interactive entertainment in the ASEAN region.
