The Andrews Labor Government has supported the development of a new specialist university Master’s degree that will upskill researchers and professionals working in the cancer field.
According to a recent press release, Parliamentary Secretary for Health Anthony Carbines has launched the University of Melbourne’s Master of Cancer Sciences Course, in partnership with the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre Alliance.
A$ 600,000 was provided by the Victorian Government towards the development of the said degree.
The Master of Cancer Sciences will be delivered through an online suite of graduate programs in cancer research, education and care.
It is Australia’s first cancer-specific, multidisciplinary, flexible wholly online Master’s program for health professionals who care for cancer patients, and just one of two such online programs in the world.
Cancer affects far too many families and this program will build the sort of world-class workforce that renews hope and helps save lives.
This degree will equip the workforce with cutting-edge tools to bring the best of cancer care to Victoria, as well as taking this state’s research findings to the world.
The part-time digital format ensures busy health professionals can juggle their workload, no matter where they live.
The first intake of 41 students includes 26 from Victoria, 14 from other states and one from outside Australia.
The program places the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre as a leading centre of excellence in cancer teaching and learning, here in Australia and internationally.
It is an alliance of 10 leading research, clinical and academic institutions with a shared commitment to saving lives through the integration of cancer research, education and patient care.
Victoria is home to the best and brightest medical minds. This digital course ensures that the state strengthens that internationally renowned research community even further.
Meanwhile, the University of Melbourne has joined seven of the world’s leading business schools to form the Future of Management Education Alliance.
The Alliance, reportedly, is the first collaboration of its kind in the business education sector.
It will be launching a new digital learning platform that combines faculty expertise with cutting-edge technology.
The aim is to meet growing demand from students and executives for a more flexible, bespoke and globally accessible study experience.
Partner schools aim to enhance the student experience by complementing face-to-face learning with experiential and online learning.
The custom-built, shared technology platform for management education will enable the University to grow its existing online offering.
Moreover, it will deliver new and exciting products to meet ever-changing graduate and executive education needs.
Students will have access to internationally renowned business courses, resources and talent, and will benefit from a more global learning experience, with stackable and complimentary subject offerings.
The Alliance will also provide academic staff with access to expert digital training, consultancy and programme development support to ensure greater ownership over online offerings, and the necessary skills to develop new courses.
The Dean of the University’s Faculty of Business and Economics said that the global economy is becoming increasingly competitive and business education must be responsive to this dynamic environment.
The University is committed to providing the highest standard of education in innovative and flexible ways.
