The six areas of “smart government” and “smart economy” include many major infrastructures such as digital personal identity (eID), smart lampposts, open government data, promotion of government public cloud services and establishment of new big data analytics platforms.
OpenGov Asia reported on the smart lampposts as part of the report on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge getting 5G tech; the government will install 5G infrastructure in form of 400 smart lampposts in four urban areas for trial 5G service.
Since the government announced the new open data policy last week, the external response has been very positive. This year, the Data Link will open more than 650 new data sets.
The Secretary for I&T noted that data is an important cornerstone for the development of the digital economy and smart cities. Therefore, in terms of open data, the government will weigh the weight and hope that the industry will develop more innovative applications and benefit the people.
The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer will set up the Smart Government Innovation Laboratory in April this year to invite IT to submit IT-related technical solutions and product proposals on specific topics for different public services.
Verification technology creates more business opportunities for local start-ups and SMEs. It is hoped that industry players will actively submit proposals to enable government departments to more effectively formulate innovative measures to improve public services.
