The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), through its Cybersecurity Bureau, will be holding its 1st Philippine International Cybersecurity Conference (PICC).
According to a recent report, the conference will be bringing together 400 participants for the two-day conference happening on 25 – 26 October 2018 in Davao city.
The conference will present the most pressing and emerging issues in the current Philippine cyber landscape as experts in the field from across the world share valuable perspectives on various grounds in cyber security.
This distinctive event shall serve as a venue to establish linkages that could lead to productive partnerships among government agencies, private sector and the civil society.
With the theme, “Road to Resiliency”, the conference is ultimately designed to showcase the country’s journey towards its goal of cyber resiliency.
The Department wants to reassure the people of its commitment in strengthening the cybersecurity posture of the country.
At the same time, it does not deny the reality that there is no cybersecurity stance available that is flawless.
Therefore, it does not aim for perfection but it aims for resiliency. It is the higher level objective of guaranteeing the delivery of services and the continuous functioning of the society in an event of an attack.
The country’s journey to cyber resiliency began in May 2017, upon the creation of a well-established ICT framework thru the National Cybersecurity Plan
With a handful of people and on a shoestring budget, the Cybersecurity Bureau boldly took on the challenge, hit the road and started its race.
Two years in its journey, the Bureau has taken strides in the realisation of its goals. From the establishment of a well-defined ICT framework to building its capabilities, the whole of cybersecurity approach entails serious responsibility and sacrifice.
The Bureau has come a long way in its venture, yet the road remains to be long.
Pressing on, the Department, through the aforementioned Bureau, is making an all-out effort with hopes and head held high.
The PICC 2018 is an offering of the Department to the Filipino People. Protecting the cyberspace is not a sole responsibility of the Department, but is a shared duty and a common goal among every citizen of the nation.
The journey to cyber resiliency is a feat of the people, for the people. It is always a good thing to look at where the country has been, where the country is at, and where the country is heading.
The whole country should advance in the journey together and win the race to become a cyber resilient nation.
Every year, every day and every hour, cyber threats plague states, organisations, and individuals. The rapidly changing cyber threat landscape has taken its lead in the race.
In order to keep up and get ahead of the game, it takes a special combination of the right technology, right policies, and right mindset.
The Philippines has come this far, and there is no slowing down in cybersecurity.
