The Institute
of Technical Education (ITE), Singapore,
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qlik, a leading provider of data analytics
solutions, to set up a Social Media and
Data Analytics Lab at ITE College West. The MOU signing ceremony was
attended by ITE staff, Directors and College West colleagues.
ITE is a
post-secondary education institution under the Ministry of Education in
Singapore and it acts as a principal provider of career and technical
education, and a key developer of national occupational skills certification
and standards.
This
initiative aims to accelerate staff and student capabilities in these emerging
technologies. With the MoU, ITE will work with Qlik to incorporate its
Digitalisation and Data Analytics-related educational software into ITE’s
curricula. Qlik will also provide complimentary software and access to Qlik Continuous
Classroom enablement platform to ITE. The software will be used to conduct
training and demonstration for ITE students and adult learners under the Continuing
Education and Training program.
ITE staff will
be trained and equipped with the technical know-how to teach and use the software.
With the training, ITE staff can also consider leveraging on Qlik’s clientele
information to develop case studies or scenarios for use in industry projects
and classroom learning, subject to Qlik’s and its clients’ confidentiality
agreements.
Besides sharing
expertise, ITE and Qlik will also jointly explore industry project
opportunities to complement the learning of Data Analytics for students through
hands-on experience. This would also bring about productivity improvements for
these industry partners.
“We are
delighted to partner leaders in industry to help our students and staff keep
abreast of the latest industry developments and trends. This collaboration with
Qlik in Singapore will open up new learning opportunities for staff and students
in applications of data and visual analytics in our business courses. Data
analytics skills will enable our students to work and contribute effectively in
the digital workplace,” said Ms. Low Khah Gek, CEO, ITE.
“As
workplaces of the future become more data-driven, data literacy or the ability
to utilise analytics tools to read and understand data, will become an
important and common business skill for any member of staff within the
organization. With this partnership, we believe there is an opportunity to
create a meaningful impact for the student community by empowering them to be
more data literate. This will build and support tomorrow’s digitally enabled
and data-driven workforce,” said Julian Quinn, VP, APAC, Qlik.
On October 27, ITE signed another MoU with leading cloud-based CRM solution provider, Salesforce. The objective is to enhance the training of students in the area of CRM technologies, through staff and student development, internships and career developments and ultimately develop IT professionals for the industry. Students will undergo Salesforce’s Trailhead curriculum,
and eventually become Salesforce-certified.
